    What is Operation RedBlock?

    • Operation RedBlock is a labor-developed company-adopted drug and alcohol prevention and intervention program.
    • Operation RedBlock emphasizes awareness, education, and prevention of drug use through union-led prevention committees.
    • Operation RedBlock aims to change attitudes, reduce the tolerance of nonusers to job-related drug and alcohol use, and to encourage users’ seek assistance.

    • Operation RedBlock is used to avoid working while under the influence of drugs (illegal and some prescription) and/or alcohol.

    When would you use ORB?

    • When you are at work and realize you should not be on the property, mark-off RedBlock by calling the confidential mark-off number.
    • If your co-workers tell you to mark-off RedBlock, please do so.
    • You can use ORB at any time and are encouraged to do so.
    • Obviously, Amtrak would appreciate as much notice as possible.

    • Any Amtrak employee can use it.

    Mark-Off Proceedure

    1. The impaired individual calls 1-800-44R-BLOC (1-800-447-2562) to mark-off RedBlock.
    2. The call is handled by the Union Crew Dispatcher at Crew Management Services in CNOC. This is a SINGLE, UNRECORDED phone line. 
    3. The ORB trained dispatcher calls ORB Labor Coordinators, who are on call 24/7.
    4. CMS will mark T&E or OBS employees off as a non-paid excused absence. For all other crafts, the ORB coordinator will contact an ORB union-approved manager to make the entry on the time card and back fill the job if necessary.
    5. A peer member within the employee’s work community is contacted to follow-up with the employee.
    6. A peer member contacts the employee and offers support and help.
